SkyPergola Carport
1× per order – applies to all pergolas
Do I even need a building permit for my pergola?
Whether a building permit application is required for a pergola in Switzerland depends on your municipality, the size, the location, and any potential side glazing.
In practice, however, many pergolas—especially smaller or open designs—are built without a permit application. As a result, many customers choose either to go ahead with the project right away or to quickly check with the municipality first.
And for maximum peace of mind, our building permit guarantee applies:
If you order the pergola and it later turns out that a permit application is required and is not approved, you can send us the rejection in writing and withdraw from the contract free of charge.
This way, you can plan your project with confidence—without risk.
If you would like or need to submit a permit application, we’ll show you step by step below how it works in a straightforward, structured way.
Step 1: Find the municipality online
Open Google and search for:
“Municipality + your place of residence + building application”
On your municipality’s official website, you’ll usually find a section such as:
- Building application
- Building permit
- Building & Planning
- Construction forms
For pergolas, the required document is often called:
- Simplified building application
- Notification procedure
- or minor building application
In most cases, this simplified procedure is exactly what you need for a pergola.
Only a few details are required—often together with a sketch or a site plan.
Almost all municipalities provide this information and the forms online as a PDF—so a personal visit to the municipal office is usually not necessary.
Step 2: Submit documents
If a building permit application is required, proceed as follows:
- Fill out your municipality’s building permit application form
- Also download our installation plan from our website
- (you’ll find the relevant link further down on the “Installation plans” button)
- Send the completed form together with the installation plan to your municipality by email or post
Practical recommendation:
Send the municipality 1–2 photos of the intended location where the pergola is to be installed. This makes the assessment easier and speeds up the decision.
This way, you can submit your building permit application in full, neatly, and with minimal effort.
Step 3: Add the site plan (cadastral plan)
Depending on the canton, the site plan and/or cadastral plan is available in a cantonal geoportal (e.g., AGIS in Aargau or your canton’s geoportal).
1) Open Google
Search for:
“Geoportal + your canton + parcel”
(e.g., “Geoportal Zurich parcel” or “AGIS Aargau parcel”)
2) Search for the address
In the geoportal, you’ll find a search field at the top.
Enter your address there (street + town/city).
Alternatively, you can also search by the parcel number.
3) Display parcels
Activate the following views in the map layers:
- Parcels / properties
- If applicable: official cadastral survey or property map
You’ll now see your property with the boundary lines.
4) Create the site plan as a PDF
In the menu, choose a function such as:
- Export plan
- Create PDF
Make sure that:
- the parcel boundaries are visible
- the area around the pergola is clearly identifiable
- a scale (e.g., 1:500) is included
Save the plan as a PDF—this is your site plan and/or cadastral plan.
5) Draw the pergola into the plan
Open the PDF on a computer or tablet (e.g., with Preview, Acrobat, or a drawing tool).
- Simply draw the pergola as a rectangle on the plan
- An approximate position and size is completely sufficient
- A handwritten mark with a pen or mouse is usually accepted
No technical drawing and no millimeter-precise planning is required.
6) If it feels too time-consuming
No problem. The simplest way is often:
Contact the municipality briefly by phone or email and ask:
“Could you send me the site plan as a PDF so I can draw in the planned pergola?”
Many municipalities will send the plan directly by email.
Step 4: Collect signatures
For the simplified procedure, you generally need:
- Your signature as the owner-builder
- if applicable, the signature of a co-owner
- the signatures of the directly adjacent neighbors
Neighbors usually sign directly on the building application form or on the site plan (name, date, signature). Which option applies is stated on the municipal website or specified by the building authority.
Here’s how to proceed:
- Bring the form or the site plan with the pergola marked in
- Briefly show where the pergola is planned
- Kindly ask for the signature
A simple opener is enough:
“We’re planning a pergola in the garden. For the simplified procedure, the municipality just needs the consent of the direct neighbors. Here you can see the plan.”
Important to know:
If a neighbor refuses to sign, the application can be submitted as a standard (regular) building application. In that case, the municipality reviews the project and decides whether there is a valid reason for a refusal. Without an objective reason, a neighbor cannot simply block the project.
Step 5: Feedback and Approval
After the review, you’ll receive feedback from your municipality.
Typical scenarios:
- approval granted directly
- a brief follow-up question (e.g., confirmation of a setback)
- rarely, a minor condition
Depending on the municipality, the process usually takes:
- approx. 2–6 weeks
After receiving approval:
- no further steps are required
- as a rule, there is no construction inspection
Your pergola can now be implemented without any issues.
Building permit application about us – simple, safe, and professional
If you don’t want to handle the building permit application yourself, we’ll be happy to take care of it for you.
For CHF 1’000.–, the permit application is managed by our external architect, who is highly experienced with pergolas and simplified procedures in Switzerland.
You benefit from:
- a clear structure
- professional submission
- maximum peace of mind
You hardly have to worry about a thing — we’ll guide you through the process step by step.
Step 1: Order the pergola incl. building permit application
You simply order your pergola from us as usual and choose the option
“Building permit application via us”.
From that moment on, we coordinate everything else for you.
Step 2: Contact from the architect
After you place your order, our architect will contact you directly.
You will receive:
- a clear checklist with all the information required
This makes it clear from the very start what’s needed—without follow-up questions or delays.
Step 3: Provide information and documents
You provide the architect with the following information:
- where the pergola is to be placed on the property
- 1–2 photos of the house and the intended location
- the pergola installation plan, which you can download directly below via the “Installation plans” button
Based on this, the architect prepares:
- the site plan and/or cadastral plan
- all required documents for the simplified building permit procedure
This ensures that the building application can be submitted correctly, completely, and without any follow-up questions.
Step 4: Collect signatures
As is usual in the simplified procedure, neighbor signatures are also required here.
The customer collects these themselves:
- briefly inform the neighbors
- show the site plan and construction plan
- obtain signatures
This is usually quick and straightforward, as no residential use is created and the pergola is clearly defined.
Important to know:
If a neighbor refuses to sign, the building application can be submitted as a standard (normal) building application. In this case, the municipality reviews the project and decides whether there is a valid reason for an objection. Without an objective reason, a neighbor cannot simply stop the project.
Step 5: Finalization of the building permit application
After submission and once the signatures are available:
- the municipality reviews the application
- you will then receive feedback or approval
Once the building permit application process is complete, everything is taken care of.
Your pergola can be implemented without any issues.

Originally, a pergola referred to a freestanding structure—often covered with plants—that provides shade. In modern architecture, however, the term has evolved: today, a pergola usually describes a stylish canopy supported by four columns with an open or adjustable roof—a true design statement for outdoor spaces.
In many countries, the pergola has long been a staple of high-end gardens and terraces—and in Germany and Switzerland, it’s increasingly becoming an absolute must-have. Whether it’s a garden, pool area, patio, or rooftop terrace: a Sky Pergola instantly adds more style, comfort, and functionality to any outdoor space.
Our Sky Pergolas are equipped with an intelligent louvered roof that can be opened and closed at the touch of a button. Integrated gutters ensure you stay comfortably dry even during a summer shower. Thanks to well-designed accessories, you can enjoy your Sky Pergola all year round—whether in sun, wind, or rain.

In principle, all standard pergolas as well as the matching accessories are available from stock. If you’re unsure, feel free to contact us via live chat, by phone, or by email—we’ll help you right away.
For custom-made pergolas, the current delivery time is approx. 3 to 3.5 months, as these are produced individually to your specifications.
Your pergola will be delivered reliably by our logistics partner Planzer. You will be contacted by phone in advance to arrange a suitable delivery date. In addition, the driver will get in touch about 1–2 hours before arrival so you can prepare for the delivery.
The pergola is delivered on a pallet in several packages. Each package weighs approx. 45–55 kg. Please make sure you are on site at the agreed time and can assist the driver with unloading. A tail lift is usually available; however, a helping hand is required to place the goods on your property.
With us, you can conveniently pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, TWINT, and all major credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. In Switzerland, we also offer the option to pay by invoice or in up to ten flexible monthly installments via PowerPay. This lets you pay for your desired pergola easily and securely—whichever way suits you best.
Yes, payment after receiving the goods is possible – in Switzerland, we offer this via PowerPay as payment on invoice or installment payments over up to 10 monthly installments. Please note that PowerPay assigns individual credit limits, which can typically be around CHF 4,000 to 5,000. This limit is set directly by PowerPay, and we have no influence over it.
With Sky Pergola side blinds, louvered walls, or glass walls, the sides can be closed flexibly and the wind effectively reduced—for even more comfort in any weather.
Depending on the model, our Sky Pergola systems are designed for snow loads between 50 kg/m² and 150 kg/m². In alpine regions or during heavy snowfall, we recommend leaving the louvers open so the snow can fall through unobstructed and no excessive load builds up on the roof.
Our Sky Pergola models are built to be exceptionally robust and, depending on the model, can withstand wind speeds of up to 220 km/h. This provides maximum stability and safety even in extreme weather conditions.
Yes—when the louvered roof is fully closed, the area underneath stays reliably dry. Water is channelled via the louvers into the integrated gutter system and then guided downwards in a controlled way through the columns. This way, you can enjoy maximum comfort under your Sky Pergola—even in the rain.
The standard height of the Sky Pergola is 250 cm. With the louvers open, an additional approx. 8 cm is added, bringing the total height in the open position to approx. 258 cm.
No, the Sky Pergola is essentially a maintenance-free product. However, to maximize the service life of all moving parts, we still recommend lightly lubricating them in spring before putting them into operation, depending on usage.
The standard color for our pergolas is Anthracite (RAL 7016); this option is usually available immediately from stock.
White (RAL 9016) is also available, however with the corresponding delivery lead time.
For custom-made pergolas, all RAL colors are available on request for an additional color surcharge of 1'500 CHF.
Yes, we offer a 10-year guarantee on the availability of spare parts. With our high-quality Sky Pergola models, however, it is very unlikely that any spare parts will be needed at all. The construction is robust and designed for a long service life. If a spare part is ever required, our customer service team is always available to assist you.
Our Sky Pergola models are made from rust-free, powder-coated aluminum. This premium material is completely weather-resistant and requires very little maintenance. Unlike steel or wooden structures, the material can neither rust nor weather. The pergola is designed for long-term use of more than 30 years.
We offer professional shortening of the pergola posts on standard models through our local metalworker. The price for this service is CHF 500.
If longer posts are required, they must be ordered separately.
Please note that only pergolas and side screens can be shortened in this way. Side elements such as louvered walls or glass walls cannot be adjusted.
Our trained Sky Pergola installation team has already professionally installed over 1,200 pergolas in Switzerland. We would be happy to offer this service throughout Switzerland and take care of the complete installation for you.
Self-installation is still easily possible – our pergolas are deliberately designed so that you can assemble them yourself. Many of our customers opt for self-installation and save significant costs as a result, since professional installation in Switzerland can quickly become expensive. If you have any questions, we will of course be happy to support you at any time.
5–6 hours, depending on DIY skills and the number of people involved. So far, all of our customers have managed the assembly without any issues, and our customer service team is always available if you have any questions.
To achieve the maximum wind load, we recommend installing reinforced point foundations measuring 50x50x50 cm (length x width x depth). The pergola can then be secured to the foundations.
Alternatively, Sky Pergolas can also be screwed directly into terrace surfaces such as stone slabs or wooden decking. In this case, however, the maximum wind load is lower and depends on the structural design of your terrace surface.
Whether a building permit application is required in Switzerland depends on the municipality. Regulations are handled differently, which is why we recommend always checking directly with your local municipal administration.
For smaller pergola sizes, many municipalities do not require a building permit application. For larger pergolas, a simplified permit application is typically required, usually including the signatures of your immediate neighbors.
If you wish, we’re happy to take care of this step for you—our team will submit the fully prepared permit application to your municipality. The cost for this service is CHF 500.
No, a slope on the terrace is generally not required to ensure the pergola’s water drainage. Our Sky pergolas feature an integrated drainage system that channels water in a controlled way via the louvers into the internal gutters and down through the posts.
For pergolas without side elements such as glass or louvered walls, a slight slope of up to 1% in the ground is not an issue.
However, if side walls are to be installed, it is important that the surface is perfectly level so the walls close properly and can move smoothly. A sloped surface can cause malfunctions here.
Sky Pergola side blinds are height-adjustable sun and privacy screening solutions that also provide protection from light wind and rain. They are available in both manual and motorized versions and feature an integrated zip guide that secures the fabric at the sides and ensures stable, taut tracking—even in windy conditions.
The ZIP function ensures that the fabric is held firmly in the pergola’s side guide rails—similar to a zipper—integrated into the pergola columns. Especially in windy conditions, this technology offers a clear advantage, as the blind remains stable and stays securely in its guides. Ideal for patios that are regularly exposed to wind.
Yes, you can add one or more Sky Pergola side roller blinds at any time. Retrofitting is possible on all sides, even at a later date.
For custom-made pergolas, however, we recommend planning the side roller blinds right when placing your order, as a later re-order involves a delivery time of 3 to 4 months.
Sky Pergola blinds with ZIP function are suitable for slightly stronger winds. However, in strong winds we always recommend fully retracting the screens to avoid damage.
You can add a range of practical accessories to your Sky Pergola to further enhance comfort and functionality. These include fixed or sliding louvered walls as side privacy and wind protection, elegant glass walls for transparent weather protection, as well as side blinds that can be operated manually or motorised, depending on your preference. For pleasant temperatures even on cooler days, patio heaters (infrared or dark radiators) can be installed, while fans provide better air circulation on hot summer days. In addition, a rain sensor can be integrated to automatically close the louvers when rain begins. This turns your Sky Pergola into an outdoor retreat you can enjoy all year round.
